Six volunteer members of the department have earned their National Professional Qualifications - Firefighter 1 (NPQ-1) certification. Three of those members have gone on to become NPQ-1 instructors and the Department is now working towards the goal of all members being NPQ-1 certified.
The City of Milan lies on the county line separating Dodge and Telfair Counties. As such, the M.F.D. is dispatched jointly by both the Dodge-Wilcox 911 Center and the Telfair-Wheeler 911 Center. The Department is dispatched on fire calls and also automobile accidents. On auto accidents, the Department provides extrication operations for trapped victims. In addition to fire calls and auto accidents, the Department is also dispatched on medical emergencies as First Responders. The First Responders are trained to administer basic first aid and offer the E.M.S. advanced information to be used for patient assessment while still in route to the scene.
The M.F.D. also operates a SCUBA dive team to service the surrounding areas. The dive team conducts search and recovery operations following a drowning. The team has also been used to assist in recovering submerged vehicles as well as working with local law enforcement for evidence recovery. |
